Tefilla of the Shelah Hakadosh

This special prayer was composed by the SheLah Hakadosh to express the prayers of parents on behalf of their children. The SheLah Hakadosh said the optimal time for parents to recite this prayer is Erev Rosh Chodesh Sivan for that is the month when G-d gave us the Torah, and when the Jewish people began to be called His Children however it may be recited anytime. On that day, (the SheLah Hakadosh) writes, fathers and mothers should give charity to the poor and repent. They should even fast, if they are able to.

* 1565-1630 (11 Nisan, 5391) ISAIAH BEN ABRAHAM HA-LEVI HOROWITZ (SheLah Hakadosh) (Prague, Bohemia-Tiberias, Eretz Israel) Rabbi, kabbalist, and Jewish leader known as the SheLah Hakadosh for his major work "Shnai Luchot Habrit" (Two Tablets of the Covenant) which combines Halachah and Kabbalah as a way of life.

He moved to Eretz Israel in 1621 after the death of his wife. In 1625 he was arrested with many other Rabbis and held for ransom. The SheLah served as leader and Ashkenazi Rabbi in Jerusalem. He used his personal wealth to financially support the community.

The SheLaH strongly believed that he was privileged to be able to observe the commandments tied to the land of Israel. He is buried next to the Rambam in Tiberias.
